Anxiety

How to pray when you’re anxious

To pray when you’re anxious, tell God plainly what you’re afraid of, ask Him for what you need, thank Him for one thing that is still true, and then let the worry go into His hands. Philippians 4:6–7 gives this pattern, and it promises God’s peace, not a perfect prayer.

A prayer for this moment

The kind of verse and prayer Cast gives you for what you share.

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:7 NIV

Lord, my mind won’t slow down. I keep running through everything that could go wrong, and I’m tired of carrying it.

You say to cast all my anxiety on You because You care for me. So here it is. I give You the worry I can’t fix and the outcome I can’t control. Thank You that You are already in tomorrow, and that I don’t have to be there yet.

Guard my heart and my mind with Your peace. Help me breathe, rest, and trust You with what comes next. Amen.

Anxiety tends to make prayer feel harder at the moment you need it most. Your thoughts race, the words tangle, and it can feel like you have to calm down before you’re allowed to come to God.

You don’t. Scripture invites you to bring the anxiety itself. You don’t need to explain it well or fix it first. One honest sentence is a real prayer.

A simple way to pray

  1. Name what you’re afraid of

Say the worry out loud or write it down, as specifically as you can. “I’m scared about the test results.” “I don’t know how we’ll pay rent.” Naming it turns a cloud of dread into something you can actually hand over.

  2. Ask for what you need

Tell God what you want, even if it feels small or selfish. Ask for the outcome you hope for, and ask for strength if it doesn’t come. He already knows. Saying it is for you.

  3. Thank Him for one true thing

Paul pairs prayer with thanksgiving. Find one thing that is still good or still true: you woke up, someone loves you, He has carried you before. Gratitude doesn’t deny the fear. It gives it a wider frame.

  4. Let it go, and stay a moment

Picture setting the worry in His hands, and then don’t rush off. Breathe slowly. Sit in the quiet for a minute. You may need to hand it over again tomorrow, and that’s all right.

Bible verses for anxiety

  • Philippians 4:6–7 NIV
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

The pattern for an anxious prayer, and the promise that comes with it.

  • 1 Peter 5:7 NIV
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

The verse Cast is named for. You are not a burden to Him.

  • Psalm 94:19 NIV
“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”

Proof that people of faith feel anxious too, and find comfort.

  • Isaiah 41:10 NIV
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

For when you feel like you have to hold everything up yourself.

  • Matthew 6:34 NIV
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Permission to deal with today and leave tomorrow with God.

  • John 14:27 NIV
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Jesus’ peace is a gift, not something you have to produce.

Questions

Is it a sin to feel anxious?

No. Anxiety is a human feeling, and Scripture is full of faithful people who felt it, from David in the Psalms to Jesus in Gethsemane. The invitation in Philippians 4 isn’t a scolding. It’s a place to take the anxiety.

What if I pray and still feel anxious?

That’s common, and it doesn’t mean you prayed wrong. Peace often comes slowly, and you may need to hand the same worry to God many times. If anxiety is constant or getting in the way of daily life, talking with a doctor or counselor is a wise and faithful step too.

Can Cast help with anxiety?

Cast helps you bring anxious thoughts to God in prayer: you share what’s on your mind, receive a verse and a prayer for it, and sit quietly with Him before you let it go. Cast is a prayer app, not a treatment for anxiety, and it doesn’t replace professional care.
